The Enterprise Essentials Portal is part of a UK-wide national initiative to help improve the business skills of Small Business owners and managers. It is paid for by a combination of Government money and payments from Sector Skills Councils and other bodies. Therefore, there is no charge to you as a User. Top
How can I be assured of the quality of the information and advice?
TThe Enterprise Essentials Portal has been devised and is backed by specialists in the development and nurturing of all types and sizes of business. The skills profiles are based on Internationally renowned National Occupational Standards devised and maintained by SFEDI. All information is checked for accuracy, and all Training Providers, Mentors, Courses and other programmes are subject to various Quality Assurance schemes. Top
What benefits do I get if I register?
You can access most of the information without the need to register at all, and you can also self-assess your current level of skills and find the right guidance and development opportunities without giving us any information or contact details. However, the Portal also contains information that is relevant to specific areas of the country, or to specific types of business. If you register some simple information with us we will be able to let you know about subsidies and special local projects that will be relevant to you. For your peace of mind we do not ask for personal contact details (except email) so you can be assured that you will not receive unsolicited calls or information as a result. Absolutely, and you have already taken the right first steps by looking for help and assistance. The ‘enterprise profiles’ available on the Home page will allow you to see exactly what enterprise skills you will require. You can drill down to more detailed information and to free guidance in many areas. If you need more formal training or development you can follow the link from each individual area, or the ‘Development Planner’ function will automatically identify any gaps in your profile and suggest the best development opportunities for you. Remember to Register in order to get Regional or Sector specific information.

Can I get information that's specific to me or my business?
Absolutely! You may live in a region where special development programmes are being run, or you may work in an economic sector with special development programmes. Many of these programmes are free or heavily subsidised. In some areas there are specially trained coaches and mentors who can work with you to develop your skills. In some regions specially trained skills brokers can talk directly to you and help identify the right development path for you. Remember to Register for full information delivered directly you.

Yes! The ‘enterprise profiles’ available from the home page contain detailed information on the skills nyou will need when promoting your small business. These skills can be learned and developed over time. As you put these improved skills into action you will begin to see the benefits feed through into better business performance. All business skills are detailed within this portal, but remember that if you do not register you might miss out on local, regional od sector speicific opportunities that arise from time to time.

There are many sources of Information, Advice and Guidance available to you, but we recognise that you need to be certain that you will not be ’sold to’ if you follow up any of the training or development opportunities in this portal. In the first instance you can rely on the local Business Link Service as a first point of call. Some regions and some sectors have specific local services paid for from public funds, and these can always be trusted to be impartial. Remember that if you register we will be able to direct you to these where appropriate.
